Inspection & Testing

ProActive Electrical provide a complete periodic inspection service of all electrical installations. ProActive Electrical is an approved NICEIC contractor allowing us to provide NICEIC reports and certification. All of our engineers are fully qualified to City & Guilds and 17th edition standard. Periodic inspections are carried out to BS 7671 wiring regulations to ensure full up to date compliance.

Periodic inspections are necessary because all electrical installations deteriorate; this is due to a number of factors including wear, tear, damage, overloading and other factors. Consequently legislation requires that all electrical installations are maintained in a safe condition. The recommended frequency of the inspections is dependent on the type of installation. This is usually every 5 years for commercial and industrial installations.

If problems are found with your installation these will be recorded on the electrical installation condition report (EICR).

On completion of the periodic inspection you will receive an electrical installation condition report (EICR) which will include all test results, a schedule of items inspected and any recommendations or observations noted against compliance with current standards.

If any of the observations are deemed unsafe then the EICR will be unsatisfactory. ProActive Electrical will provide a solution and a quotation to restore your installation to a safe condition.

Do I need a periodic inspection?

The health and safety at work act 1974 and electricity at work regulations 1989 require precautions to be taken against the risk death or injury from electricity during work activities. This applies in all work places and includes the self employed. Periodic inspection and testing can ensure you comply with this legislation.

The purpose of a periodic inspection is to provide an engineering view on whether or not the electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition and can be used safely.

The periodic inspection and testing is carried out for

  • The safety of persons and livestock against the effects of electric shock and burns
  • Protection against damage to property by fire and heat arising from an installation defect
  • Confirmation that the installation is not damaged or deteriorated so as to impair safety
  • The identification of installation defects and departures from the requirements of the regulations that may give rise to danger

What does a Periodic Inspection tell me?

Prior to carrying out the inspection we will meet with you to outline the scope of works and extent of the installation to be inspected. We will highlight items that will require isolating and arrange the most convenient time to carry out the inspection to avoid disruption to your business. We will even work overnight to achieve this for you.

The periodic inspection comprises a detailed examination of the installation together with the appropriate tests to ensure ongoing compliance with BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.

Visual Inspection

Along with some partial dismantling we will inspect all visible electrical items including switchgear, light fittings and sockets. The inspection will include a check on the condition of electrical equipment with regard to:

  • Safety
  • Age
  • Damage
  • Corrosion
  • Overloading
  • Wear and tear
  • Suitability for use
  • Thermal damage

Testing

We will carry out the relevant tests on all identifiable circuits to prove:

  • Earthing and bonding is adequate
  • Protective devices isolate circuits within stated disconnection times
  • Cable insulation is not deteriorating causing a fire risk
